Summary | Advances in technology, alongside developments in financial theory and practice, have transformed many of the relationship-focused intermediaries into today¿s data-driven banking operations. This course focuses on recent innovations and trends in the banking sector. The course provides students with an understanding of how digitalisation, data-driven approaches and innovative technologies are shaping the present and future landscape of banking. It will introduce examples and applications of how banks can use Big data and AI technologies to enhance their business operations. Additionally, the course will introduce decentralised finance and open banking. The course will also cover how banks integrate environmental, social and governance considerations into their business and operations. This course is structured to blend traditional lectures with a series of guest lectures by professionals from financial institutions as well as experts in the areas of Banking, FinTech, data science, and artificial intelligence |
Course description |
The course seeks to stimulate interest in emergent trends in banking innovations and provides the knowledge required to give students a good understanding of how various innovative technologies and methods can used in banking business and risk management. The course also provides students with a good practical understanding and skills enabling them to leverage data-driven insights to address business challenges.

A different topic will be explored each week such as:
- The Evolution of Banking Innovation
- Applications of Big Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence in Banking.
- Open Banking and Decentralised Finance
- Sustainable and Ethical Banking
Student Learning Experience
The course combines traditional lectures with a series of guest lectures by professionals from financial institutions and experts in areas of Banking, FinTech, data science, and artificial intelligence. Students will be engaged in the learning process through lectures, class discussions, assignments, and independent learning and reading.
