Healthcare is vital to modern society, with far-reaching implications for individual well-being, public health, and national economies. In an era of evolving healthcare landscapes, rising costs, and increasing demand for equitable access to quality care, the role of health economists has never been more critical. This module prepares students to be at the forefront of addressing these challenges and driving positive change.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explore healthcare markets, studying the forces of supply and demand, pricing mechanisms, and the impact of government policies and regulations on healthcare delivery and accessibility.
- Explore the art of health economic evaluation, which plays a pivotal role in shaping healthcare policies and resource allocation decisions. Students will delve deep into the techniques of cost-benefit analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, and quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), subjective well-being, stated preference elicitation techniques and gain the knowledge and skills required to critically evaluate the value of healthcare interventions, programs, and technologies.
- Examine the financing and payment systems that underlie healthcare, including public and private insurance models, and gain insights into the challenges and opportunities presented by healthcare reform.
- Analyse healthcare policy from an economic perspective, dissecting healthcare systems worldwide, studying government's role in healthcare, and assessing the ethical dimensions of resource allocation and priority setting.
- Dive into cutting-edge topics such as the economic implications of emerging healthcare technologies, the impact of behavioural economics on healthcare decision-making, and the dynamics of global health economics.
