SummaryA post-introductory course for students with a Foundation Portuguese 1 /National 5 / GCSE / Standard Grade / or CEFR A1 in Portuguese who wish to improve.

1. Unless completed Foundation 1, students are required to provide evidence of their language level to the Course Organiser upon enrolling on the course.

2. Students with a higher level of the language than stated above are not permitted and may be asked to withdraw from the course.

3. Auditing (Class Only) is not allowed. All students must take all elements of assessment, including the examination.

The course runs in Semester 2.
Course description Foundation Portuguese Language 2 is a ten week course.

This is an SCQF Level 7 course which carries 20 credits. Students may take this course for extra credit. The course is open for undergraduate and postgraduate students from all Colleges, whether for credit or as an extra credit course. Students from DELC have to do this course as an extra credit course.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Develop their knowledge of the language in a wide variety of situations using more complex vocabulary and grammar.
  2. Continue to develop a more nuanced command of a critical understanding of a range of more specific areas in Portuguese-speaking cultures and societies (Brazil, Portugal and Lusophone Africa).
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the main ideas of complex speech on concrete and abstract topics, and an ability to rapidly grasp the content and significance of a range of written material.
  4. Write at length about topical and cultural issues in a critical manner summarising information accurately and developing a clear argument.
  5. Further develop effective communication, presentation and interaction skills across a range of media, on both a spontaneous and prepared basis.
