Summary | Research Skills and Methods in IMES serves as a general introduction to academic practice in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at postgraduate level. It will provide students with an introduction to the digital and physical resources available while studying at the University of Edinburgh, address what is meant by critical thinking at postgraduate level, and encourage the development of the students' academic writing and research skills. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Describe and access different printed and digital academic resources and research technologies.
- Acquire, synthesise, organise, and critically assess a range of academic materials which have been provided and collected independently.
- Identify, describe, and evaluate different theories and methods relating to Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies.
- Produce a scholarly bibliography in their particular area of study.
- Demonstrate advanced academic writing skills.
