Summary | This course will focus on the international law of human rights, primarily through looking at the U.N. system including Charter and Treaty bodies as well as looking at the links between the various human rights treaties and organs that form the international human rights protection system. |
Course description |
The programme will include an introduction to human rights law, a thorough grounding in the primary institutions and mains instruments dealing with the international protection of human rights. The course structure will develop and expand students' knowledge of individual rights and the interrelated nature of the broad range of human rights while simultaneously growing students' understanding of the relationship between the distinctive international human rights organs.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Knowledge and understanding of the main institutions and instruments of the international legal protection of human rights.
- Critical analysis, presentation of reasoned argument both orally and in written work.
- The development of critical analytical skills through examination of materials in international human rights law. Both oral and written communication.
