Summary | The aim of this course is to develop participants from a novice to a competent/proficient facilitator in utilising clinical simulation as a learning tool.
Please note that this course will involve greater self-direction than some other courses. Students will play a greater role in directing discussions and finding appropriate resources to make use of and discuss with peers. |
Course description |
Through this course students will apply relevant learning theory and a range of simulation based learning modalities to create simulation based scenarios/programmes that engage learners, influence practice, and ultimately improve patient safety and quality of care.
Online environments are used for the teaching, learning and assessment of all courses on the programme. This includes Microsoft Teams for regular, synchronous conversations, a virtual learning environment with discussion forums for asynchronous dialogue, and other interactive visual, audio, textural and graphical modes of communication.
Students will have weekly live conversations and asynchronous discussion forums to guide and support their learning. The weekly live conversations will be interactive and consist of a mix of short presentations, small group work, debates, and group discussions.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Critically engage with the relevant learning theories that inform simulation education as a methodology.
- Critique a range of simulation modalities and their use in simulation based education.
- Formulate a constructively aligned simulation programme.
- Critically reflect on effective debrief in the context of a simulation scenario.
