Course description |
This course will introduce students to the application of ethical theory in one or more specific areas of contemporary concern. Topics covered vary from year to year but may include issues in biomedical ethics, philosophical questions concerning death and dying, environmental ethics, ethics and the law, business ethics, animal rights, and ethical questions concerning the emergence of new technologies.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- become familiar with key debates in some area or area of applied ethics
- understand the relationship between normative theory, metaethical theory, and applied ethics
- relate debates in applied ethics to other areas of philosophy and ethical theory, as well as law and social policy
- formulate questions and positions of relevance in applied ethics and write a critical paper on a current problem in applied ethics
