Course description |
'Phil Skills' is aimed at giving incoming on campus MSc students a grounding in the skills needed for philosophical reading and essay construction. It will consist of two seminars of two hours. It is mandatory for those students without a background in philosophy. Students will receive feedback relevant to the themes of the course on a 'informative essay' written for one of their further individual MSc courses.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- identify and reconstruct the argument of a philosophy paper
- construct a well-formed introduction to a philosophy paper
- better think through how to formulate an appropriate thesis for a philosophy paper
- work within the word counts of an assignment effectively
- use appropriate language for academic philosophical writing
