Summary | This course is designed to provide a general introduction to policy in a One Health context. The role that policy plays in the evolution of One Health will be discussed, with particular reference to examples of complex local and global challenges. |
Course description |
This course will focus specifically on policy frameworks to support inter-sectoral and inter-disciplinary approaches to complex global challenges. Current policy frameworks of relevance will be outlined and important terminology introduced. The course will introduce common policy research methods and illustrate how policy-informing research may contribute to the development and evolution of policy locally, nationally and globally. Methods for communication, including policy briefs and position papers, will be discussed.
A variety of learning methods will be used including narrated lectures, a reading list, online discussion boards and group work.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate critical understanding of the policy making and policy change process across different geographical contexts in fields related to One Health
- Communicate with specific audience(s) about complex One Health issues, using appropriate methods and with an awareness of sustainability and equity principles
- Make contextually informed policy recommendations on complex One Health issues in the absence of complete information
