Year 1 Academic year: 2024/25, Starting in: September

Notes:
1. Before selecting your outside courses, please ensure you have spoken with your Cohort Lead or Programme Director.
2. Students can select up to 40 credits of Level 7 elective courses, across Years 1 and 2 (not per year).
3. To continue without the need for an extension to the total period of study, a full-time student must attain a minimum of 80 credits by the end of Year 1. Total credits per year must equal 120.

BMus Music_Year 1 options

Select between 0 and 60 credits of the following courses
Notes:
Fundamentals of Music Theory - This course is compulsory for students who do not have an A in Music at Advanced Higher or A Level.
Performance 1 - Students taking this course should have Grade VIII ABRSM or equivalent on their first instrument or will have passed an audition.
AND

Level 7 and 8 courses in Schedules A-Q, T, W and Y

Select between 0 and 60 credits from Level 7 and 8 courses in Schedules A-Q, T, W and Y
Notes:
Please exclude Centre for Open Learning courses with codes beginning LLL.

Year 2 Academic year: 2024/25, Starting in: August

Notes:
1. Before selecting your outside courses, please ensure you have spoken with your Cohort Lead or Programme Director.
2. Students can select up to 40 credits of Level 7 elective courses, across Years 1 and 2 (not per year).
3. To continue without the need for an extension to the total period of study, a full-time student must attain a minimum of 200 credit points by the end of Year 2. Total credits per year must equal 120.

Sound Recording - Only if students have not already taken course in Year 1.

Notes:
Performance 2 - If students have passed Performance 1 in Year 1of Degree Programme.

Level 7 and 8 courses in Schedules A-Q, T, W and Y

Select between 0 and 60 credits from Level 7 and 8 courses in Schedules A-Q, T, W and Y
Notes:
Please exclude Centre for Open Learning courses with codes beginning LLL.

Year 3 Academic year: 2024/25, Starting in: August

Notes:
1. Before selecting your outside courses, please ensure you have spoken with your Cohort Lead or Programme Director.
2. Students are permitted to take 40 credits across Year 3 and Year 4 in an outside subject (Traditional Music & Traditional Song courses from the Scottish Ethnology department are not considered as outside subjects).
3. To continue without the need for an extension to the total period of study, a full-time student must attain a minimum of 360 credit points by the end of Year 3.

After successful completion of 360 credits as outlined above, students may be eligible to exit with an Ordinary degree. See general DRPS regulation 53 for further details.

Year 4 Academic year: 2024/25, Starting in: August

Notes:
1. Before selecting your outside courses, please ensure you have spoken with your Cohort Lead or Programme Director.
