Biomedical Sciences 1, Medical Biology 1 and Molecules, Genes and Cells 1 are all core courses for this programme and must be passed to ultimately graduate with an Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences.

The expected norm is that all first year entrants must take EITHER Biological Chemistry 1A OR Biological Chemistry 1B though it is strongly recommended that both courses are taken. Where only one of these courses is taken the other can be replaced by any other course chosen from Schedules A-Q/T and W. Our Changing World (BIME08006) is strongly recommended.

Automatic progression to Year 2 requires students to obtain 120 credit points by the end of the August examination diet. The Programme Board may allow progression to Year 2 with 100 credit points, however, the credit point deficit must be made good before the end of Year 3 (Junior Honours) at the latest.

Students are required to take 60 credits in Semester 1 and 60 credits in Semester 2.

Biomedical Sciences 2, Cells to Organisms 2 and Microorganisms, Infection and Immunity 2 are all core courses for this programme and must be passed to ultimately graduate with an Honours degree in Biomedical Sciences. Progression to Honours requires students to obtain 240 credit points by the end of the August examination diet.

In addition, students must obtain at least 50% at the first sitting in Biomedical Sciences 2 and one other core course. By the end of the August examination diet students must have passed all three core courses with an aggregated average of at least 50%.

The Programme Board may allow progression to Year 3 with 220 credit points, however, the credit point deficit must be made good before the end of Year 3 (Junior Honours) at the latest.

Students are required to take 60 credits in Semester 1 and 60 credits in Semester 2.

3. In order to proceed to Senior Honours students must have obtained at least 360 credit points and met the requirements set out in the DPT for their selected programme of study. Students must have:
- passes in all core 1st, 2nd and 3rd year courses . For the Pharmacology programme Pharmacology 3 is a core course
- at least 80 credit points by passing level 9 or level 10 courses in the Junior Honours year at the first attempt (this must include any core courses); and
- achieved at the first attempt an overall aggregated average mark of at least 40% across all 120 credits of level 9/10 courses taken in Junior Honours

4. Students are required to take 60 credits in Semester 1 and 60 credits in Semester 2.

Elective course availability will be subject to student numbers. While every attempt will be made to allocate students to their preferred elective course choices, where demand is high, we cannot guarantee this. Students should check course details for timetabling information and location as courses are taught at a number of sites across the University.

To be awarded a classified Honours degree you must meet the following minimum requirements.
- 360 credits, for Years 1, 2 and 3 of study, including passes in all core courses for your degree programme,
- passes in a minimum of 80 credits for study in Year 4,
- an overall aggregated average of at least 40% for the 120 credits of Year 4.
