| Summary | This studio-based course involves research and experimentation in contemporary architectural design techniques and their application in specific urban settings. It takes the form of a series of inter-linked design projects that draw on a diverse range of design strategies currently being deployed in contemporary architectural practice globally. Through this process students begin to develop group and individual design experiments that have the capacity to contribute to and extend the current body of design knowledge. |

Other requirements | This course is only open to Architectural and Urban Design (MSc) students.
This Course requires additional costs to be met by the Student.
Travel and Accommodation: There are required travel costs associated with field-trips.
Student will be expected to part support the cost of international travel by public transport / car / air, and the cost of accommodation for 7- 14 nights.
Equipment and software: Most equipment and software required will be provided by the School, but student will be expected to provide some specialist equipment including [e.g. laptop headphones, SD cards].
Materials: Students will be expected to fund the purchase of general art and design materials, such as sketchbooks, paper and pens. Students will be expected to fund purchase of some specialist materials required by their course e.g. card / wood / metal. Course Organisers will support you in meeting intended learning outcomes while keeping material costs to a minimum, encouraging sustainable, responsible sourcing through Free Use Hub, but students will be expected to fund optional material costs as necessary for their own project work.
Printing: Students are expected to fund occasional printing of A4/A3/A2/A1 printing and booklet binding. Students will also be required to print in sizes and lengths outside of the ¿A¿ range, off rolls, larger than A1, frequently in long/high banner formats on different media like paper, trace and film.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Undertake architectural design work of an advanced standard on the basis of a critical appreciation of architecture's relation to the larger field of cultural production.
- Think creatively about architectural design and its implications for contemporary urban contexts.
- Articulate appropriate methodological dimensions of architecture and creatively mobilise them within an urban/metropolitan context.
- Evaluate a range of analyses techniques and test them in appropriate urban/metropolitan contexts.
- Show leadership within an architectural design team by applying skills in research, design, discussion, writing, and presentation.
