Summary | Business performance is increasingly aligned with sustainability indicators, and yet the term ¿sustainability¿ is often poorly understood. Achieving sustainability is impossible without a clear understanding of what sustainability is and how it relates to economic activity. The sustainability crisis is caused by a complex mix of multiple, interwoven, diverse issues. The response must also be thought out, understood, strategised, and rolled out across all sectors of society, across all organisations, across all job descriptions, roles, and functions. This course explains the fundamentals of sustainability, discusses how to identify obstacles and turn them into opportunties, and shows you how to ¿do¿ sustainability no matter what your role is. This course will interrogate the meaning of sustainability, by clarifying key elements of climate, nature, and biodiversity science and linking them to the context of business activities. |
Course description |
Specifically, students will learn where emissions and ecosystem degradation happen within the value chain, to better understand what activities cause, and what interventions can improve, environmental outcomes. Recognising the demands of KPIs, sustainability discussions are grounded in the reality of running an organisation, aiming to identify sustainability actions that are both meaningful and achievable. In this way, the course prepares students to make informed, effective decisions in the board room. This course will equip students with the skills and confidence to make strategic sustainability decisions. Students will then apply these lessons by writing a sustainability board report
