| Summary | This course is intended to introduce economic theories developed to understand the reasons why countries trade and the gains arising from it; to provide empirical evidence highlighting the strengths and limitations of the introduced theories; to examine the relation between trade and inequality; to explore the role played by economic geography and technology in international trade; to analyse the link between the global production processes and trade. |
| Course description |
The course covers key stylized facts of international trade; gains from trade; the law of comparative advantage; size and economic geography of trading countries (gravity equations); productivity differences and trade (the Ricardian model); winners and losers from trade (specific factor model); monopolistic competition and trade (new trade theory); firm heterogeneity and trade.
