You will have the opportunity to negotiate a set of learning outcomes, a rationale, reading list and assessment with a defined supervisor, and then to complete it on a self-study basis. You can take this course as an individual, or as a small group with other students in the Edinburgh Futures Institute.
Course description This course provides the opportunity for an individual course member or group to engage in supported self-study in a specialist area relevant to their programme or final project.

Permission to enroll on the course is conditional on a satisfactory contract (as described below) being produced by the student in consultation with a named supervisor.

The contract must be approved by the programme director and will contain the following elements:

- Title for the work
- Rationale
- Learning outcomes
- Approaches to study
- Assessment
- Reference list

You will be supported to develop this contract to ensure it is robust, manageable and meaningful in the context of your programme and your own aspirations. The course carries three core learning outcomes which you will be required to work to, and you will be able to devise up to two additional outcomes relevant to your particular area of study. Taking this option will enable you to gain experience of devising and completing a course of self-study equivalent to 10 credits.
