Course description This 20-credit course is designed for all Italian 3 students and aims to strengthen overall linguistic competence by developing accuracy, idiomatic knowledge, and stylistic awareness in written Italian.

The course runs in conjunction with Language Paper 1 (ELCI10019) and shares its activities in written and oral practice. Tutorials concentrate on grammar, translation into Italian, and writing in Italian. Students will practise a wide range of written styles, genres, registers, and topics.

Teaching is normally delivered jointly with Italian 4 students, but students of Italian 3 Language will be assessed at the appropriate level (third year level, SCQF level 9)

Feedback Students will receive regular oral feedback on their spoken and written work in class. Written feedback will also be provided in detail on their coursework assignments and tests. Tutors will be happy to discuss results and feedback during their office hours or by appointment on students' request.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate an overall proficient grasp of the Italian language and cultural refences equivalent to a C1 CEFR level.
  2. Engage successfully with various kinds of texts and registers, from newspaper articles on current political and social debates to literary texts.
  3. Demonstrate accurate and in-depth reading and comprehension skills on general or specific topics.
  4. Write accurate and fluent texts in Italian, showing awareness of different styles and controlled use of organizational patterns and cohesive devices.
  5. Work effectively, both independently or as part of a team, and under a tutor's guidance.
