Summary | In consultation with the department, students will identify a topic in English Literature for an independent Long Essay project, for which resources are available during the students' residence abroad. Students will have e-mail access to staff for consultation during the year. The Long Essay will be researched and written during the year abroad. Students would submit the essay during the August re-sit diet, before they begin fourth year. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Formulate a research question appropriate to English Literary studies.
- Identify and appraise relevant evidence to construct coherent and persuasive arguments in response to that research question.
- Support that argument with evidence drawn from a body of knowledge relevant to the chosen research field.
- Present those arguments and evidence as an extended piece of written research set out in a manner appropriate to literary studies.
