SummaryIn consultation with the department, students will identify a topic in English Literature for an independent Long Essay project, for which resources are available during the students' residence abroad. Students will have e-mail access to staff for consultation during the year. The Long Essay will be researched and written during the year abroad. Students would submit the essay during the August re-sit diet, before they begin fourth year.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Formulate a research question appropriate to English Literary studies.
  2. Identify and appraise relevant evidence to construct coherent and persuasive arguments in response to that research question.
  3. Support that argument with evidence drawn from a body of knowledge relevant to the chosen research field.
  4. Present those arguments and evidence as an extended piece of written research set out in a manner appropriate to literary studies.
