Summary | This research-focused course comprises elements of the first two terms of the CDT in Quantum Informatics training programme. It consists of two parts: a residency programme at the National Quantum Computing Centre, and personal development workshops. |
Course description |
In the NQCC residency programme, teams of students work on industrial use cases, developing their research skills by combining academic rigour with real-world problem-solving through critical enquiry, experimentation, and technical writing. In addition, via sandbox sessions, students are introduced to varied quantum hardware provided via NQCC through the use of relevant Software Development Kits. This practice-based research orientation includes Responsible Research and Innovation analysis approaches to quantum technologies, including regulation. Participation in the residency programme is assessed through a brief research report. Additionally, students participate in three personal development courses offered by the Institute for Academic Development, and write a summary report about what they have learned. These two pieces of writing form the basis for assessment and also feed into the annual report for the first-year review.
