Summary | The objectives of this course are to develop an understanding of the concepts, tools and practices relating to the operations of an organisation, with particular emphasis upon manufacturing, and also the ability to diagnose operational dysfunction and suggest possible solutions. It examines the process nature of operations, the strategic importance of operations and the issues influencing efficient, effective and adaptable operations. |
Course description |
This course provides a practical orientated course on Operations Management. It covers the topics of: Operations as a process, Planning systems, Quality management, Business process outsourcing, Supply chain management, Operations strategy, Japanese approaches, Use of AI in operations, Operational risk, Green operations. Whilst the emphasis is upon manufacturing contexts, the material is appropriate for any operational contexts, such as services.
Student understanding of the course content is assessed by an examination covering the entire content of the course.
