Summary | This course will consider aspects of selected research topics in Global Health Epidemiology, with a particular focus on measuring the global burden of disease, the policy implications of this and some of the limitations of this (e.g., lack of data on ethnicity). We will introduce students to some of the challenges we are facing in Global Health, including climate change, and will consider issues around gender and global health. |
Course description |
This course aims to provide students with an understanding of the methodology and contribution of the Global Burden of Disease study to understanding the epidemiology of disease globally.
The course will be structured into the following topics:
1. What is global health, and how does it relate to public health?
2. What is the Global Burden of Disease?
3. How does the Global Burden of Disease study measure disability and mortality?
4. How does the Global Burden of Disease measure risk factors for disease, what are some of the challenges for health globally and what are the policy and investment implications of the Global Burden of Disease study?
