On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- show how to define 'religion' in the light of definitional theory
- engage critically with an illustrative selection of contemporary theories of 'religion'
- compare and contrast different kinds of definitions and theories of 'religion'
- apply theories to concrete case material
- defend their own preferred theory of 'religion'
