DEGREE REGULATIONS & PROGRAMMES OF STUDY 2025/2026

Students failing History of Art 1A: Images and Identity, 500 to 1700 or History of Art 1B: Making Meaning in the Pre-Modern World will not be allowed to progress to year 2 unless recommended as a special circumstances concession from the Exam Board. Students transferring into Fine Art from another programme with no prior study in History of Art, may with the permission of the UG Director, be allowed to take HA1A, HA1B and HA2A, HA2B concurrently in year 2.

To continue without the need for an extension to the total period of study, a full-time student must attain a minimum of 80 credit points by the end of Year 1. Total credits per year must equal 120.

Before selecting your outside courses, please ensure you have met your Cohort Lead.

Art in Practice 3 must be passed to progress; the remaining credits count to classification and normal credit on aggregate rules apply.

Students should ensure they have 60 credits in each semester; students wishing to undertake 80/40 split should seek permission of Programme Director

If students are away on exchange in Semester 1 they do not need to take HIAR10171 Analysing Art History Part One. They will also enrol on only the Art in Practice 3A or 3B.

For students that are accepted on History of Art Work Placement (HIAR10157), this can replace Analysing Art History: Texts, Objects, Institutions, Part Two (HIAR10170) in semester 2.

MA Fine Art 4 Studio and Research must be passed to progress; the remaining credits count to classification and normal credit on aggregate rules apply.
