| Summary | This course introduces students to important concepts within professional education. It considers the educational theory which underpins professional education and examines currently employed models. The analogies of education both as a product and process are considered. The course is designed to allow students to make explicit links to their own professional area, conceptualising professional education as beyond the competency focus of many vocational undergraduate degree programmes. Developing the adaptability required when applying professional knowledge to new and complex situations. |
| Course description |
The course will be delivered online to a wide range of working professionals who have an interest in teaching.
Design and delivery will focus on building an academic community and allowing students to share experiences, establish shared understanding and make explicit links between the academic learning and their professional workplace. A variety of theoretical lenses will be employed to critique professional education policies, environments and practices.

| Additional Information (Assessment) |
There will be two formative assessments which will be compulsory. The formative assignments will be posted on discussion boards to allow others in the cohort to view and comment on them. These will form the basis of the summative work which will be weighted 100%. The summative assignment requires the student to critique professional development within their own context and suggest how it should/ could develop. A workbook will be provided that the students can complete as they progress through the course and will form a proforma for the assignment (3,000-4,000 words). |
| Feedback |
Feedback is an on-going dialogue between staff and students. Specific and detailed feedback will be given on the two formative pieces of work (which will include peer feedback from other students on the course). This feedback will consider the content of the work, but also on the construction and presentation of academic arguments.
The summative work will be marked with intext comments and an audio recorded summary.
