Year 3 Academic year: 2020/21, Starting in: August

-- PLEASE NOTE: There will be no further admissions to this programme which is now only available for Years 3, 4 and 5 --

1. Progression to Year 3 normally requires passes in at least 100 credit points worth of courses in Year 2. The 100 credit points passed must be from the list of courses given in Year 2 of the Degree Programme Table (DPT) of the student's chosen degree programme.

In addition, entry to Year 3 is normally only permitted if the following pre-requisite courses are passed:

- ELEE08016: Analogue Circuits 2.

2. Courses listed here are all level 9. However, with the permission of the School Curriculum Approval Officer, 10 points may be taken at level 10 to assist in preparation for the Honours project.

3. For accreditation purposes, students must select Professional Issues (Level 10), normally in 4th year.

There are no compulsory courses in this year of this programme.

Notes:
- Entry to Year 4 MEng -
Entry to Year 4 of the MEng normally requires an average of 55% in third year, at the first attempt. Those not achieving an average of 55% or above will be required to transfer to Year 4 of the BEng programme.

- University Progression and Graduation Rules -
In Years 3, 4 and 5 the University progression and graduation rules normally require full passes in 80 credits of courses with an overall average of 40% or more for the 120 credits of study taken in the relevant honours year.

- The IET Progression and Graduation Rules -
In Years 3 and 4, due to the requirements of The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), progression and graduation require full passes in at least 100 credit points worth of courses AND an overall average of 40% or more for the 120 credits of study taken in the relevant honours year.

- The IET Compensation Rules-
The IET also stipulates that a maximum of 20 credits compensation can be applied for the 120 credits of study taken in the relevant honours year. These regulations permit up to 20 credits to be compensated, where marks are in the range from 30%-39%. For any mark below 30% students must carry out 'Resits for Professional Purposes' (RPPs).

- Resits for Professional Purposes -
Students NOT achieving full passes in 100 credits AND/OR whose remaining 20 credits have results less than 30% will be required to take 'Resits for Professional Purposes' (RPPs).

Progression or graduation will then only be permitted once they have achieved the equivalent of full passes in at least 100 credits of courses plus a result of 30% or above in the remaining 20 credits. However the mark obtained at the first attempt will be used to calculate the final year average and degree award.
