| Course description |
The course comprises a supervised placement, and is taken in conjunction with the taught course CBT for Children and Young People, and following on from taught course, Fundamentals of CBT with Children and Young People in Practice.
Students are required to achieve 50 hours clinical practice through work with a minimum of four clinical cases for the duration of the course which are suitable for the purposes of training in CBT, and with whom the student is undertaking CBT interventions. Students should aim to work with a range of clients (both in terms of age and presenting difficulties; minimum 3 different types of presentation should be evident).
Students will develop a portfolio of supervised clinical work demonstrating CBT practice, reflection and evaluation.

| Additional Costs | Supervision costs are not met by the University - students from outside the NHS are likely to have to pay for their supervision. Students on placement in the University's Psychological Therapies Centre will pay a bench fee to the centre for access to the centre and it's supervision facilities. |

| Additional Information (Assessment) |
1. One taped session, which will be required to demonstrate competences in CBT treatment (80%)
2. One written summary of 500 words with structured written reflections on the recording (20%)
3. Complete the placement folio (pass/fail).
i. Minimum 50 hours direct clinical contact
ii. Minimum 4 patients have been engaged in treatment (all seen for a minimum of 5 sessions; 2 of whom should have completed treatment)
iii. Minimum 20 hours of supervision
4. The overall evaluation of clinical & professional competence/practice has been assessed as developing at an appropriate level by the clinical supervisor (pass/fail). This evaluation will be informed by the clinical supervisor reviewing at least one taped session against the benchmark provided by the competence rating scale.
Students can only achieve a pass when they achieve the following:
1) A score of 50 or more on the recording and the accompanying 500-word case summary achieves a pass at 40.
2) The Supervision Portfolio evidences the above criteria have been met.
3) The supervisor passes the placement.

| Feedback |
Clinical supervision (minimum 20 hours) will provide feedback on clinical practice. The student is expected to provide clinical recordings for supervision as routine practice to facilitate this feedback. As stated in the overall evaluation of competence/practice section, this will include as a minimum the requirement for the supervisor to listen to one full audio-recording of a session, providing feedback informed by the competence rating scale. This should be a different audio recording to the one submitted for the summative assessment. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency, appropriate to the stage of training, in conducting an assessment of psychological problems via the use of self/other report, observations and interview methods.
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of developmental, systemic and contextual factors in the client¿s presentation, and the ability to develop appropriate formulations of presenting psychological problems.
- Demonstrate proficiency, appropriate to the stage of training, in the application of CBT for a range of presentations, with evidence of use of relevant change strategies.
- Demonstrate a range of professional practice skills such as following the ethics and values set out in BABCP code of conduct; making appropriate use of supervision and ensuring appropriate personal/professional conduct.
- Demonstrate self-awareness of one¿s own strengths and weaknesses and an ability to reflect on how these interact with performance.
