SummaryThis course critically examines the management of human, physical and financial resources at the strategic level across sport. It assesses governance, organisational development and strategy, quality assurance, and performance management within sport organisations. It also discusses the application of risk management, event organisation, and financial analysis to sport.
Course description The effective management of resources is an increasingly prominent consideration in the context of sustainable sport organisations. This course equips students with advanced understanding to navigate the complexities of managing finite resources in the global sport industry. The curriculum covers core areas such as:

Strategic Management and Planning
Organisation Theory
Organisational Behaviour

Analysis of contemporary management issues in global sport management

These principles are applied across commercial, public, and third sector sport organisations, addressing the challenges of a rapidly evolving industry. The course encourages critical thinking and strategic decision-making through lectures and seminars, using a problem-solving approach for real-world case studies.

Feedback Feedforward/formative work will take place during classes for both assessments.
General feedback will be delivered to students in seminar, as well as specific written feedback to each student via Turnitin for both assessments.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate critical knowledge and understanding of the principles of governance, leadership, and management in sport
  2. Critically analyse the role of leadership and the management of resources on organisational dynamics in the sport industry
  3. Demonstrate a critical understanding of theories pertaining to the management of resources in sport organisations
  4. Critically appraise the impact of strategy and performance management in the management of resources in sport organisationsratios and performance indicators to a range of sport organisations.
  5. Critically understand the management of riskĀ in relation to the resources of contemporary sport organisationsan understanding of the importance of risk management and health and safety issues in a range of sport settings
