| Summary | This course, through weekly seminars and online learning, enhances students' written language skills with a focus on translating German-language non-specialist written texts (e.g. news articles) into English and writing summaries of English-language non-specialist written texts in German. The course aims to bring students to the CEFR level B2.2. |
| Course description |
This course refines students' written language proficiency in a weekly seminar that focuses on translating from German to English and summarising English-language texts in German. The texts are non-specialist and written for a general-audience (e.g. news articles). Seminars also focus on mastering advanced German grammar and additional support is provided through self-testing online learning activities.
Typically, students enrolled on the German 3 Language course attend the same classes as the German 4 Honours students who are registered on the German Language Paper 1 course. However, German 3 Language, which is set at Level 9, follows different assessment criteria to the level 10 German Language Paper 1 course.
All course materials will be available on the online learning platform, LEARN. In the first semester, students will be assigned two formative tasks: producing a summary in German based on a news article in English and a translation from German into English. The second semester has two summative assignments, also assessing the summary and translation.
