| Summary | Basque Language for Beginners provides an introduction to Euskara, the language of the Basques, spoken in northern Spain, southwestern France and in the Basque diaspora. The main focus of the course will be the language, some examples of Basque culture and society will also be integrated as contexts for the language. Significant emphasis is placed upon developing good oral, listening, reading, and writing skills, which will be a solid foundation for the further study of the language. Students will be introduced to important core vocabulary, the main grammatical cases, and the present continuous, present simple, recent past and future tenses. By the end of the course, students will be able to write, speak and understand the spoken language on a basic level (A1-A2 on the Common European Framework for Languages), so as to be able to communicate confidently in day-to-day situations. |
| Course description |
Students will acquire the basic foundations of the Basque language by practicing oral and written expression, with reference to grammatical forms specific to the communicative tasks and goals. Part of the learning process involves becoming acquainted with the structural particularities of the Basque language. This practice is guided in class and supported by short language tasks completed prior to and after classes. Students will also learn about the Basque culture and socio-linguistic aspects of the language.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
