DEGREE REGULATIONS & PROGRAMMES OF STUDY 2026/2027

You will be automatically enrolled on your four compulsory courses. You must pass these courses in order to progress to Year 2 of the English Language and Literature programme.

You will be automatically enrolled on your four compulsory courses. In order to progress into Year 3 of the English Language and Literature programme, you must:

- Pass LEL2A and LEL2C and
- Pass Literary Studies 2A and Literary Studies 2B with a mark of 50% or above in each course, achieved at first attempt.

You will need to take 120 credits, including:

- 40-80 credits (2-4 courses) of Language Sciences courses, at least one of which must be a 'Foundation' course,
- 40 credits (2 courses) of English Literature Year 3 Option courses, one of which must be taken in each semester, and
- 0-40 credits (0-2 courses) of English Literature Reading Theory courses.

If you are considering a dissertation in Language Sciences in Year 4, you must include a Language Sciences 'Skills' course in your Year 3 course selections. The LEL Honours handbook gives further details about the Language Science courses being offered. Please consult this handbook when selecting your courses.

You will need to take:

- Dissertation in Language Sciences or English Literature Dissertation,
- Two Language Sciences Honours courses, and
- Two English Literature Year 4 Option courses, one of which must be taken in each semester.
