| Summary | This course is for social work students on the Masters in Social Work programme only.
The course includes an assessed practice placement.

| Course description |
A practice placement of 100 days will provide students with the opportunity for direct supervised practice in an agency that provides social services. Placement settings will enable the development of practice skills, knowledge and values. Agencies will appoint a Practice Educator to assess, supervise, support and teach students.
Individuals being supported by students will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the quality of support provided by students. This feedback is an important component of student learning and contributes to the Practice Educator¿s assessment. Students will be encouraged to learn and work with a range of professionals from other settings and begin to understand the significance of a multiagency approach.
Throughout their placements students will be supported by their Academic Supervisor.

2. Practice Teacher's Placement Final Report - Pass/Fail
3. Practice Study (4000 words) 50%

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Successfully complete a 95 day Practice Placement meeting the required SiSWE standards
- demonstrate the ability to integrate relevant research , theory, policy and law pertinent to assessment and intervention in the practice situation
- demonstrate the ability to analyse their practice including critical discussion of the selected method(s) of intervention, skills utilised, discussion of related ethical and values issues and the development of relations with service user(s)/carers
- demonstate the ability to bring together different elements and write about them in a clear,coherent way
- demonstrate the ability to evaluate their intervention in the practice situation including critical reflection on their skill development, their achievements in the practice situation, relations with service users / carers and other professionals, and areas for future development.

To progress to placement students must registered with the Scottish Social Services Council as a student social worker. In addition, students must be members of the PVG Scheme through the University of Edinburgh |
| Additional Class Delivery Information |
In line with Scottish Social Service Requirements students are required to complete 100 days in placement practice (7 hours per day). |
