SummaryThis course facilitates the students to complete a dissertation as an independent research project under the supervision of an academic member of staff. The dissertation will be 4,000 words in length and be based on intensive study of Chinese-language materials, extensive reading of secondary works in Chinese, English or other languages and the use of appropriate critical perspectives to support the argument. .
Course description The course is structured across both semesters, built on proposal development and foundational work completed in Year 3 through taking Research Portfolio A and Research Portfolio B.
Semester 1 includes preparatory workshops and supervisory meetings.
Semester 2 is dedicated to the final production, featuring dissertation presentations (Weeks 2 or 3), followed by the submission of drafts to supervisors and the ultimate Dissertation submission in April.

  1. Identify and explain a research topic related to Chinese studies.
  2. Evaluate the current literature on your research topic.
  3. Discover Chinese language materials related to their research topic.
  4. Analyse Chinese language materials to formulate and support an argument.
  5. Produce a substantial piece of original research in a suitable written form.
