| Course description |
This course develops the theme of personal and interpersonal skills, communication skills and clinical skills, with an emphasis on developing a strong foundation in diagnostic and basic clinical techniques in preparation for EMS, and the introduction of more clinical contexts and preparation for working in a clinical environment. Understanding of veterinary business is developed through the perspective of the patient and the client.

1. Attendance
You are expected to attend ALL of the professional and clinical skills practical/tutorial classes listed on this course. Attendance of less than 100% of these classes will result in a Fail for the course.
(Recorded through attendance moinitoring for every class)
2. Attendance at professional mentor meetings is mandatory and is a requirement to pass the PCS3 course
3. Successful completion of Drug Calculations by the deadline
4. PCS3 Communications reflection - pass/fail - you must submit by the deadline
5. Portfolio Submission - pass/fail - you must submit by the deadline.
6. Successful completion of equine OSPRE Exam
Resit Information
If you fail this pass/fail course then you will be required to complete a resit activity and/or the failed assessment component to ensure all relevant learning outcomes have been assessed. Your resit tasks will be sent out by email by the Exam Board Chair once all marks are ratified.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify and demonstrate the personal behaviours and professional standards of a veterinary surgeon. Demonstrate knowledge of the organisation, management, financial operation and professional responsibilities related to a veterinary business
- Reflect on personal progress in the development of professional and clinical skills, creating an action plan for continued development.
- Practise the components of a veterinary consultation while communicating with simulated clients and peers and take part in verbal debrief discussions of these learning events with simulated clients, peers and teaching staff.
- Demonstrate a range of stage-appropriate common clinical techniques on veterinary simulators and mannequins in a clinical skills lab environment under timed conditions.
- Conduct a clinical examination of the common veterinary species, demonstrating this on live animals and describing your findings to teaching staff and peers in both spoken/in-person and written format.
