SummaryThis is a placeholder course designed to record marks for the courses delivered and ratified via Heriot Watt University as part of the Dependable and Deployable Artificial Intelligence for Robotics CDT.

Course description This course will provide students with the opportunity to formally define their PhD topic in Dependable and Deployable AI for Robotics. Students will work with their supervisors in a self-study capacity to perform initial stand-alone exploratory work (e.g., conducted with an industrial partner to understand a problem area) and to select the core topic of the student¿s PhD project, which should align with one or more of the themes of the CDT D2AIR programme:

- Requirements and Specifications,
- Verification and Validation of Autonomous Systems,
- Concept Development and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), and
- Integration and Testing Methodologies for Autonomous Systems.

This course has two main aims:
- To properly monitor progress of doctoral students in their PhD studies in Dependable and Deployable AI for Robotics by having them create a report that outlines their project topic, summary of progress, and plan for their remaining studies, and
- To have students critically analyse how their work stands in terms of sustainability, ethical issues, and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI).
