SummaryThis is a placeholder course designed to record marks for the courses delivered and ratified via Heriot Watt University as part of the Dependable and Deployable Artificial Intelligence for Robotics CDT.
Course description This course will provide students with the opportunity to define and study in detail some of the fundamentals that underpin research in Dependable and Deployable AI for Robotics and topics that are likely to provide the foundations for the student's PhD project topic. This is a directed self-study course that will enable students to explore in depth the four core themes of CDT-D2AIR and their relationship to the research the student will undertake in the CDT-D2AIR programme:

- Requirements and Specifications,
- Verification and Validation of Autonomous Systems,
- Concept Development and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), and
- Integration and Testing Methodologies for Autonomous Systems.

This course has two main aims:
- To help students develop their research skills by providing research skills training in several key areas (library skills, technical writing, working with data and ethics, presentation skills, research dissemination, and outreach) through traditional lectures, invited speakers, and short workshops.
- To provide students with an opportunity to apply these skills through the writing of a research report that demonstrates their learning with respect to the programme themes, and by presenting the results of the student's independent studies to their cohort and supervisors in a short Masterclass.
