Corporate Finance (BS0019)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : MSE-4-CF This course aims to develop an in-depth understanding of advanced issues in corporate finance theory and practice. Topics include: review of market efficiency and asset pricing; financial statement analysis; valuation methods: discounted cash flow technique, relative valuation, and real options; cost of capital; going public: initial public offerings and seasoned equity offerings; corporate risk management; corporate governance and corporate social responsibility; financial intermediation; venture capital; and international corporate finance. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding: On completion of the course, students should (a) understand arguments and debates concerning the advanced topics in corporate finance theory (b) have developed their understanding of certain methods of quantitative research in finance (c) have a knowledge of theoretical and empirical academic research in corporate finance (d) have a knowledge of aspects of the practical applications (e) be able to value financial and non-financial companies by using valuation techniques covered in the course. Cognitive skills: On completion of the course, students should (a) have developed their ability to understand complex lines of argument and reasoning of the sort found in journal papers in finance (b) have developed their ability to produce answers to numerical and essay type questions.

Coursework 30%.
