Public Policy in a Small Open Economy (BS0089)

? Credit Points : 10  ? SCQF Level : 11  ? Acronym : MSE-P-BS0089

To explore the role of public policy - and in particular economic policy, broadly defined - in accelerating the development of a small open economy; the circumstances in which different policies are likely to work; the pitfalls in trying to assess the impact of policy; and to get students to see through the rhetoric and banality of most public and media pronouncements on such issues. Scotland is an example of a small open economy, so many examples can be found close to home.
