Electronic-Commerce: From B2C to B2B (BS0178)? Credit Points : 0 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : MSE-P-BS0178 The course examines the progress of the Internet and related technologies. It explores the Internet’s potential for developing new businesses and for adding new revenue streams as well as reducing operating costs for existing businesses. The aim will be to develop a student’s ability to assess these opportunities and the constraints imposed by their own “legacy” corporate environments. Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. ? Pre-requisites : Completion of MBA option course in Management Issues in Information Technology. After completing this course students should be able to:
in terms of knowledge and understanding • describe what is unique about the Internet as a market channel • describe how the Internet can contribute to an increase in revenue as well as a reduction in operating costs • explain why investing in an Internet market channel can lead to increases in transaction costs and a reduction in revenue in terms of cognitive skills • differentiate between flexible business models and flexible businesses • separate the contributions to competitiveness that arise from process design and technology capability in terms of key skills • define the scope, scale and potential impact of an investment in ‘e.Commerce’ • present a case for change in an existing business environment Assessment Information
There are two elements of assessment in this course. The Group Project compares two, competing, on-line businesses. The Individual Project examines how ‘Electronic Commerce’ offers opportunities for developing an existing business.
