European Business Strategy (BS0202)

The European Union is the focus of the development of business-government relations and we will examine the development of policy making inside the EU and its impact on the business community. The increasing role for regulation and competition and the interaction of the European Commission and member-states will be examined. The course concludes with an overview as to the determinants of competitiveness at both a European and national level.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

The objectives of the course are for the student to be able to develop an understanding of the relationship between government and business and how this has impact on current developments within the business community. This understanding will then be applied within a European context in terms of policy environment and industrial sectors.
The course is intended for those contemplating working inside the European Union or for those involved in the market developments of the European Union. The course is a specialist course and is not a general introduction to international business. However students from other departments doing courses on European issues are welcome to join the course.
