Scottish Gaelic Verse in the Modern Era (CT0095)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : LLC-3-CT0095 The course provides an overview of the development of Gaelic poetry from a tradition-bound medium of expression to the proliferation of different modern genres that characterises the subject today. The poetry under discussion takes in the work of a range of poets whose contribution to the corpus is both distinctive in itself and illustrative of the themes and concerns that are present at various stages of the century. Both famous and lesser-known poets are represented in the selection from the available corpus, and the work of native speakers is considered along that of learners of Gaelic. Students of this course will have the opportunity to explore the development of Gaelic poetry through the twentieth century up to the present time, and to gain insights into aspects of literary criticism and the understanding and interpretation of a representative selection of texts.
Assessment Information
Students are required to undertake two assignments. One assignment consists of a literary essay and the other is a presentation (delivered to the class and then written up (25% each): 50%
