The Scottish Economy (EC0028)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : MSE-3-SCOTECO This course provides an overview of the principal aspects of the Scottish economy and provides an opportunity to undertake a research project. The implementation of devolution enhances the importance of an understanding of the Scottish economy, while Edinburgh's status as the capital city of Scotland and the proximity of the Scottish Parliament add immediacy and relevance. From a broader perspective, the Scottish economy provides a valuable case study, which illustrates important and more general aspects of regional economics and the structure of government. Topics covered include: images of the Scottish economy; the sectors of the Scottish economy; the management of the Scottish economy; financing local government; regional problems and policies; demographic changes; Scottish labour market; Scottish banking and finance; North Sea oil and the Scottish economy.
