Aspects of the European Economy (EC0032)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 10  ? Acronym : MSE-3-ASPECTS

This half-course examines the economic aspects of European integration. Following an introductory lecture setting out the institutional structure of the European Union, the course examines the economic theories of international integration - which draw heavily on the orthodox theory of international trade - and the evolution of the EU as a common market. Following this, we examine the main economic policies of the European Union - budgetary, regional, industrial, trade - before moving onto the EU macroeconomic dimension which involves an analysis of monetary union and the associated fiscal policy issues. We conclude with an economic review of EU enlargement.
