All teachers engage in materials evaluation of some kind: many also design and produce materials of their own. This module considers a variety of issues related to materials evaluation. It then goes on to examine concepts relevant to teachers and learners who want to adapt or extend published materials; in particular, the concept of 'task' is examined. Production matters, such as layout, are exemplified and discussed. The module ends with a set of short bibliographies for readers who would like to undertake materials design in specialised areas such as CALL, video-based materials or self-directed learning.
