Environmental Studies 2 (ED0906)

An examination of selected Key Features from physical, biological and earth sciences, the 5 - 14 Technology curriculum, Health Education, and the social subjects in the European and a contrasting world context; planning sequences of lessons using a variety of modes of teaching and including related assessment criteria; use of ICT to provide activities appropriate for developing of children's learning and as a medium for organising and presenting work; illustration of how learning in Environmental studies can both enhance and be enhanced by learning in other curricular areas.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and practical skills in the area of the curriculum to be taught, referring this to national guidelines as appropriate.
- Know how to match the level of curriculum to the needs of pupils.
- Know how to use and adapt materials for learning and teaching to stimulate and challenge pupils.
- Demonstrate that their planning and work with pupils is based on a secure knowledge and understanding of the developmental stages of literacy and numeracy in children.
- Know how to plan for effective learning in the areas of the curriculum to be taught, or themes to be studied.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the main theories of learning and draw upon these in thinking about and planning their own teaching and pupils' learning.
- Demonstrate that they can select strategies for teaching and learning appropriate to the subject, topic and pupils' needs.
- Demonstrate that they have high but realistic expectations of pupils and match tasks and the rates of work to the needs of all pupils.
- Know how to make use of the environment and resources outside the school to support teaching and pupils' learning.
