Social History of Sport in Scotland (ED1017)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : EDU-4-SHSS This option half-course provides for a detailed social historical analysis of sport in Scotland since the late 18th Century, setting activities in the context of the broader social and economic changes in Scottish society. It examines the evolution, diffusion, and marginalisation of forms of sport in Scotland by focusing on case studies of specific forms of sport (football, shinty, Highland Games, golf). The aim of the course is to develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of the place of sport in Scottish social history. Entry Requirements? By the end of this course students will be able to:
-Demonstrate an awareness of the place of sport in Scottish social history -Discuss and analyse case studies of forms of Scottish sport -Identify and evaluate appropriate sources for researching the social history of sport -Demonstrate awareness of the relationship of social history of sport with contemporary Scottish culture Assessment Information
1000 word presentation(30%). Performance criteria: 1-analysis and evaluation of a specific topic in sport. 2-knowledge and use of a range of appropriate sources. 2 hour examination (70%)
