Design and Technology Placement 4 (School) (ED1134)

This placement will be a full time, 12-week, experience during the Spring Term. The preparation for this placement will include the successful completion of Education 3 and the Design Project. In addition there will be work associated with Education 4 and the practicum.

? This course is not available to visting students.

? Pre-requisites : Design and Technology (Placement) 3, admission to Year 4 Final Honours Placement 3

? Contact Teaching Time : 10 hour(s) per week for 11 weeks

? Additional Class Information : 11 weeks full time, secondary school based

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

This is the final one of a series of placements which occur in each year of the programme becoming progressively longer and playing an increasingly important (key) role in the students professional development. By this stage students should be able to teach a wide range of technological subjects across the curriculum in Secondary schools.

This is a compulsory placement/course contributing to the professional development of student teachers.

The placement consists of three parts:

a) Placement preparation which takes place through Technological Activity 4h and Education 4A(h)
b) An eleven week block placement in a secondary school.
c) Post placement debriefing

Assessment Information

a) Three Placement profiles (one from School staff contributes 50%, two from University staff 50%)
b) Placement Taskbook (Assessed as part of University Profile)
