Counselling and Society (ED1147)

The aims of this module are: 1) consider counselling as a contemporary social phenomenon; 2) to examine social, political economic and historical influences on its recent rapid growth; 3) to explore the ways in which the discourse of clients in counselling reflects the preoccupations, and the malaise, of society; 4) to engage critically with a range of themes including the relationship between counselling, religion and healing; the relationship between counselling and the state; and such questions as who gets access to counselling and whether counselling can be transformative of society. This module is only available to those students selected for and currently undertaking the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling. This module costs an additional 390 pounds.
