Online Learning (ED1165)? Credit Points : 15 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : EDU-P-ED1165 Course materials, tutor feedback, assessment and evaluation are all areas where developments in ICT provide new possibilities for both distance education and supplementary course notes/exercises. The design, implementation and evaluation of these offer educational enhancements and also pose particular problems for course designers and tutors. This module will explore these areas and course participants will be able to design and evaluate their own online learning materials. After completing this module course members should be able to:
1. describe the design of a course using online learning 2. select an appropriate course structure, demonstrated by an understanding of student needs, context and culture 3. select and use appropriate electronic resources for inclusion in the design of course materials from a range of options 4. select appropriate programmes and procedures for course assessment and evaluation 5. identify appropriate ways to support the learner and encourage learner autonomy 6. critically evaluate current research in online learning 7. design and evaluate a suitable short course using online learning Assessment Information
The module is assessed on an A-F scale using a combination of essays and practical tasks.
Course participants will demonstrate their ability to design and evaluate a short course using the tools and techniques encountered in the module. Each participant will undertake an assignment equivalent to 5,000 words to include: Part 1 (40% of total) A short course using an OLE or Internet site, designed by the course participant and including materials, resources, communication elements, assessment and evaluation. Part 2 (60% of total) A rationale of around 3,000 - 4,000 words which critically evaluates the short course, including analysis of the materials, resources, communication elements, assessment, evaluation and learner autonomy and support, and which reflects on the processes involved.
