Information Mapping (ED1166)? Credit Points : 15 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : EDU-P-ED1166 According to constructivist theory, learning requires the active construction of knowledge structures (or mental models) by engaging with information in suitable contexts. One way to do this to build information maps. There are many varieties, including concept maps, argument maps and mind maps, each with a range of useful applications and each of which can be potentially enhanced by computer support. The techniques involved are fairly easy to learn and extremely versatile. This module will explore ways in which information mapping can be effective in developing subject matter understanding and/or generic skills in critical thinking. Contexts and examples will be drawn mostly from Primary and Secondary school curriculum areas.
