Scottish History in the Curriculum 4 (ED1179)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : EDU-4-SHC This option seeks to provide students with an understanding of the Scottish dimensions of issues and themes in the socil sciences as they appear within the primary school curriculum. It aims to examine contemporary debates about the relationship between education and issues of national development in Scotland, as well as investigate ways in which pupils can be encouraged to learn using Scottish subject matter. There will be a distinct emphasis upon Scottish aspects of Understanding Peope in the Past throughout the option which will also examine the value of social subjects such as History as a medium for promoting attainment in literacy and thinking skills. By the end of the course students will:
-have a greater awareness and understanding of the key issues relating to the history element in the Scottish dimension of the primary curriculum; -be able to demonstrate the ability to use appropriately the range of information sources available to the learner in the area of Scottish History; -be able to demonstrate their ability to select and research and comment upon a Scottish theme or topic commentary at the student level; -be able to use their knowledge and understanding of Scottish History to effect by organising and evaluating suitable work for primary learners.
