British Business History Since 1930 (ES0017)

This course examines current business issues in their historical perspective. The main topics covered include: Nationalisation; Privatisation; regulation; telecomunications and the internet; occupational pension funds; industrial concentration; the business of the environment; air line deregulation; financial liberalization and the City; and the newspaper industry. The course is taught for 2 hours per week during one semester.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : Hons entry Visiting students should normally have 3 to 4 History courses at Grade B or above.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Student should leave the course able to employ micro-economic concepts in the analysis of business problems, and recognise the persistence of many of these problems and issues over time. Students are requried to read a wide variety of material, and to demonstrate an ability to make comparative international assessments.

Assessment Information

An assignment will be set and must be handed-in by the due date before the end of the course. This assignment forms 25% of the final mark with the exam accounting for the remaining 75%.
